Business travel, I guess it could be worse

I have been in beautiful Orange County, CA - that’s right the OC, since Tuesday evening. The worse thing about being in a place like this when it is 80 degrees in February is the fact that I actually have to go into an office and do work. I barely get to see the daylight when I run out to grab lunch at the deli around the corner. What made this trip even better was that when we landed on Tuesday around 8 pm we had a few mishaps. First me and my boss went to eat a Benihana, the waitress must have screwed up my order because as I sat there and the cook put shrimp and veggies on my plate all I got was fried rice, when I asked him where my scallops were he started arguing with me that I only ordered fried rice. Who goes to Benihana and just gets fried rice? So that was resolved and I got my meal. Then we go to check into our hotel the Ayres in Costa Mesa and they inform us that a pipe bust in one wing of the hotel and they have to relocate 13 reservations (including ours) to another location. Of course every hotel is booked except the La Quinta Inn.
When we ask is it a nice place and the guy at the desk replied “Not as nice as here” I should have known better. So we go to the inn which turns out to look like a motor lodge on the side of the freeway next to a Hooters, I say “This looks like a place where serial killers hang out!” I was so exhausted at this point it was around 12 am NJ time that I settled. But after getting into my room I was very disgusted and scared. My room was on ground level and the dark curtains would not close, so I was imagining that people walking around the hotel could see me lying in bed by myself and might try to break in. So after making sure the door was secure I put my suitcase in front of it and then contemplated moving the desk, but decided it was probably nailed to the wall. So I laid down and had a very shitty night’s sleep. Needless to say the next morning I packed everything up and left that flea bag motel, found a room at the Hilton and alls good. I was never so happy to see a Starbucks in my hotel like yesterday.

Hmmm Hooters, huh? Great chicken wings... horrible service though.

And it just goes to show you, I'm not crazy for travelling with a blow up doll when I travel alone. Inflate that thing and suddenly crooks think you are a twosome and go one to the next room. The one with the unsuspecting girl from New Jersey...
